Homebodii Bride of the Month: Rachel Stehbens

A little about me...

Hello, I’m Rach. I’m 29, my background lies in brand, PR & events, and I live on the Gold Coast with my husband, Anthony, who works for Atora Training HQ. We met at the gym in 2016 but it wasn’t until a few years later that we found ourselves working together and eventually our relationship blossomed. We share the same values and you’ll likely find us training, at the beach or going for a matcha (with our cute cocker spaniel in tow).

Our approach to planning the wedding was…

Keeping it true to us; we really wanted to create the best experience possible not only for ourselves but our guests. We started our planning by aligning on the top 5 most important things to us which were: experience, love & company (an intimate guest list that included all partners), good food & drink, quality vendors, and timeless styling. I managed all of the planning and consulted Anthony at each point before locking things in. Our vision was to create a beautiful day that best represented us and felt romantic, elegant, elevated and timeless.

Looking back on the day we are so glad that we…

Made a lot of gut feel choices and stuck with them. With experience being at the centre of our decisions, the venue we chose (aside from being beautiful) had great wet weather options, incredibly friendly & experienced staff, delicious food with the flexibility to choose our own drinks list, and was only a 10- minute commute for our guests - all of which really made our day smooth and special.

We’re also glad we spaced out the key moments in our day so that it flowed nicely. There was a drink on arrival, we poured the champagne tower after our ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour with live music while we got our portraits (this was very ‘in the moment’ for us), we cut our cake at the end of cocktail hour (fun and non-traditional), entered for reception with entrees served and jumped straight into speeches (and not too many of them). The night rolled into delicious mains, followed by our first dance (cue a dress change for me), and then finished on the dance floor!

The most unexpected part of the day was.

I stayed really present and calm. Despite trees and rain blowing sideways when we woke up, I trusted it was all going to work out and it did. We managed to have our ceremony outside as  we had planned and the rain held out until we walked back down the aisle (thank you Mother Nature). And to be honest, the rain only made the day feel even more magical. Our venue and vendors knew the vision and worked miracles together to bump everything in around the crazy weather forecast.

When I look back on the day now I feel….

An immense sense of love and support. It felt surreal and was very true to us. I am really proud of the day we created alongside our brilliant vendors.

A word of advice to new brides would be…

When it comes to planning, I suggest aligning on your top 5 most important things to help with all the decision making and keeping it true to you both - spreadsheets and moodboards will also be your best friend. And on the day, make a conscious effort to stay present and soak in every moment (I kept taking deep breaths and telling myself that the day was going slow instead of fearing it flying by like everyone says).

My Homebodii moment was special because and I wore…

I wanted to feel elegant, feminine and ultimately my best, knowing I only get to do this once. I wore the Persphone Robe & Emilia Bodysuit when we were getting our hair and makeup done. It gave me all the confidence I needed on the most special day of my life so far.
